DAFTags FM4442 contact IC cards are programmable memory cards for contact-reader systems that need a simple stored-value, membership, identification, or access record. The card must be inserted into a contact reader and uses the ISO 7816-3 communication protocol.

The FM4442 chip provides 256 x 8 bits of EEPROM and is compatible with SLE4442-based systems. The card can be custom printed and supplied with barcode, numbering, magnetic stripe, or encoded data depending on the project.

The Customer Pain Points

  • The card must be inserted, not tapped: FM4442 is a contact IC card. It will not work with an NFC phone or a contactless RFID reader.
  • The listed 2K capacity can be misunderstood: The chip uses 256 x 8 bits of EEPROM, which is 2 Kbit or 256 bytes. The user data area is smaller after manufacturer, issuer, identification, and security data are allocated.
